In our high-tech world, who wonders about the genius of the ubiquitous T-shirt? Ever popular, T-shirts owe their birthright to low-tech times. Popularized during World War II, the T-shirt did active duty as a multi-purpose clothing item; it was used as a towel, a smoke mask, a hat, a tourniquet—even a white flag. In 1941, Sears Roebuck & Co. encouraged acceptance of the T-shirt among civilians with the ad slogan: You needn’t be a soldier to have your own personal T-shirt. Today, T-shirt design is an industry in its own right and advances in technology make it possible for you to design your own, preview your design, and get it printed and delivered in a flash.
The wonder of a T-shirt is that it’s all about what you bring to it! A plain cotton background becomes a blank canvas for your individuality. Imagine what Van Gogh would have done with today’s technology! If you’ve ever wanted to design your own T-shirt, Space Shirts is thrilled to let you know about our new DIY (Do-It-Yourself) platform. Simply click the Get Started link on our home page to access our online T-shirt design tools. Start with a blank canvas or try our customizable design templates.
How to Design Your Own T-Shirt
Choose the shirt style and color you like from our product samples. Next, you’ll see a pop up image of the shirt you chose. Then upload your own art, or choose from our many text and clip art options to design your own shirt on our portal. Once you do, you can see your art on the front, back and/or sleeve of your shirt in an online preview. Very cool!
To rock your T-shirt design, consider your target audience. Who do you believe will buy and/or wear it? What do you want to say or convey? Carefully choose words, colors, fonts and images that will appeal to your ideal group of T-shirt wearers. Then choose an eye-catching simple message and test it out on a shirt.
Decide what graphics will best match your message. Simple one-color text on a black or white T-shirt are highly effective. Full-color graphics appeal to the eye, as well. With the wide range in personal taste there’s a person for every T-shirt design!
A client we worked with in the technology sector recently asked for a distressed, vintage look on a shirt we designed for him. No problem. We had a new proof ready for him in a flash. If you prefer to do it yourself, our online design tool makes it simple. Try out design filters to give your art exactly the look you want with just the click of your mouse. It doesn’t get easier than that.
When designing your garments, be aware of color choices. If you are creating one or two shirts that can be printed direct-to-garment, there is no additional cost for added colors.
For larger runs, screen printing may be a more cost-effective option. If you’re unsure about what to order or need design assistance, please call us at 1-800-451-7453 or email our Customer Service team at csr@SpaceShirts.com.
